This is a charming and lightweight book (purchased in the charming Kestrel Books, Friar Street, Sudbury) that details the goings-on on a country estate, as told by the estate manager. The stories are funny, interesting and sometimes poignant; they give a lovely flavour of life in rural Suffolk - one of my very favourite counties - and how the traditional Lord of the Manor bore much responsibility for the welfare of his tenants and in managing the land - sadly almost gone now.A pleasant read that [...]

To read full review: blakrayneblog/2015/09/If you want to read something that will make you smile, and you have an appreciation for everything British like I do then Rory Clark’s Style and Manor - Rustic tales from a Suffolk country estate is exactly the ticket. With quirky memorable characters, dry humour and heart-warming tales of escapism, this memoir/biography is truly a fun read. Adding to this, if you enjoy this book I also recommend The Darling Buds of May, which is similar in style and [...]

(3.5 stars) This is the third book in the series. James continues his work as an estate manager and has a new set of challenges. The estate is beginning its transition from Sir Charles to his son, and the changes prove difficult for both sides. There are tenant plumbing issues, Roman artifacts discovered in a field, fetes with competitions, and an itinerant who takes up residence in the manor. James manages to take care of the running of the estate with humor and grace, as in the previous books, [...]

Continuing the storyline of James Arden who is an estate agent for a big country estate owned by Sir Charles Buckley. James and his wife live close by on a farm inherited by his wife. James has an to deal with the everyday problems of the villages living on the estate as well as steering Sir Charles in the right direction. Roman coins are found on the property and a major find warrants a dig that results in Roman treasures.
