DS Alec Ramsay and the Major Investigation team are based in Liverpool. It’s a city I’ve only visited once but Conrad Jones’ adept writing skills and attention to detail mean I can just imagine what it might be like in its murkier depths. In Criminally Insane, we are introduced to quite an assortment of seedy characters living a life of crime.Frequently in crime thrillers the central character is the detective or the investigation team. However, I found the characters who most stood out for [...]

This is the sequel to The Child Taker and also the 3rd book in the Alec Ramsay series. It builds on the Drugs war in London. One of my slight gripes in The Child Taker was that there wasnt a lot of depth to the characters. This book makes up for that as I found myself getting to know Alec and his teapm. As was the case with The Child Taker and Slow Burn there is a lot going on in this book and there are different people trying to take out the drug lords each with different reasons for doing so. A [...]

BrutalEasily the best book I've read. If you're a fan of graphic violence and abuse (I mean that in the best possible way) in your books then look no further. This pulls no punches and is all the better for it.Utterly fantastic!!!

    • Sarah says:

The third in the series and what a book. A great storyline that had me hooked all the way through. Bit gory in parts but a brilliant read.

If I tell you how much I love the innovative and horrific violence Conrad Jones dreams up, are you going to judge me? Well, apologies, but I'm thrilled that Mr Jones put his extensive talents to writing and didn't decide to become a serial killer, because he's got some outrageous ideas! Needless to say, I haven't been reading the series in any kind of order, but that doesn't detract from its brilliance. I know, if I pick up a book by Conrad Jones, I'm going to get a brilliant and fast paced acti [...]

I read the set and really wanted to enjoy it, but it was very difficult for me to stay engaged and follow each of the characters. The language difference might have contributed, but I've ready many books written by European authors without this much difficulty. The in-depth details of the death scenes was seriously over the top and unnecessary. I'd give the first book a 3-1/2 star, the second book a 3 star and the third book a 2 star. Glad I'm done reading it.

A brilliant book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, as you follow Detective Alec Ramsey and his team, as they hunt down a serial killer who really enjoys his work, and doesn't mind if its man, woman or child.

Really a good story and thrilling from start to finishGreat story and great characters and very graphic terror and torture. I have read several of the books in this series and have enjoyed all of them. I will continue my efforts to read more of these books.

    • Kate Adams says:

Gripping read!Great book, lots of twists and turns but quite disturbing in parts too first book for me by this author but would definitely read more now.

    • Olwyn Lacey says:

      Excellent loved it!

    • Victoria Davey says:

I am throughly enjoying this series, all have been very different cases and detective Alec Ramsey is a very well written character. I will definitely be reading the others in this series.

Gripping readThis is the third book in the series I have read. The plot line moves on different levels but blends together bringing all the characters thoughts and actions smoothly. The action is fast paced and gripping making this a real page turner. I found myself torn between routing for someone who is essentially a bad guy and yet wanting Alex Ramsay to triumph in the end. It was also nice to bring a conclusion to the first book in the series.Looking forward to reading book number four!

Gory, grisly murders solved, maybeThis detective series is gripping, gory and so fast paced I have to hold on for the ride. Luckily, the superb writing keeps the story flowing flawlessly. Jones never holds back on the twisted, disgusting depravity people will sink to to hurt others. The eloquent way he describes grisly scenes keeps the pages flying as I become more and more covered in blood and gore. Luckily, the police are right on their trails. Read along to see if they catch up in time.

    • Nic says:

Another great book from Conrad Jones. Fast paced, twists and turns to keep you guessing, chapters told from different perspectives (the good guys and the bad guys)Lots of unlikeable characters and some written so well you want them to end up ok (and alive) despite them being a bad guy.Not for the faint hearted though, some graphic details of injuries and pain, be warned!Onto the next instalment.

    • Jamie Rose says:

Alex Ramsey seriesThe series is pretty good. The violence is creatively graphic and the books contain disturbing themes so probably not for the squeamish or readers who enjoy happy endings. This is the third in the series, follows on the story of The Child Taker (book1) but I think the books would work well as standalone stories.

Riveting Reading!!!I gave this book five stars because, quite simply it deserved it. It had me reading page after page, unable and not wanting, to put it it down. From the start of the book every page was filled with action and suspense. Loved loved loved it. Must go and download the next!

    • Yana McEwan says:

This is the fist book I read of the series even though it's the 3rd book. Stumbled upon it by accident. I have to say it was amazing!! However I have now had to go to the start with The Child Taker. I'm now on the second one Slow Burn. These books are great. I can't put them down. Gripping stories!!! Fantastic writing. Would highly recommend.

    • Pam says:

Conrad Jones writes a book as if he is a juggler, three of four different stories all going on at the same time, yet it isnt confusing, its exciting, as you follow the links that bring it all together, in a rollercoaster of a ride.

    • Pam says:

One of those books that has you cringing as you read, yet you cannot put it down, I love the characters in this book, they are written so well they feel like real people, and take you on there roller coaster, with them, definitely a book I would recommend to other crime book lovers.

    • rodney westall says:

UnputdownableDespite the fact that Alec sighs a lot and seems to get the job done by accident, its a rollercoaster ride of gore and exciting violence in which the bad guys get their comeuppance in satisfying ways.

    • Robyn Middleton says:

Wow what a rideThis book was a great page turner. I had a hard time with my chores. I couldn't put this book down.

    • Mrs J Earsman says:

Good readThrilling ,tense and exciting it kept me wanting to read more .Worth a read if you enjoy crime thrillers

    • Darren Keighley says:

Great book with a surprising ending, but only spoilt by the typing errors where some words were joinedtogether like this.If it wasn't for that it would have probably got 5 stars.

    • Jackie says:

Good mix I gave 4stars. Good characters. Although I did loose interest part way through. But quickly got back into the story.

    • Ann Fyfe says:

Great read, chilling, well worth it.

    • Black Butterfly says:

I THINK ALL THE BAD GUY’S WERE CRIMINALLY INSANE I MEAN SERIOUSLY SCARY CRA-CRAY. THIS WAS FILLED WITH LOADS OF VILLIANS AND UNSAVORY CHARACTERS THEY REALLY GAVE ME THE CREEPS. I ENJOYED! ;D

    • Destiny Causby says:

Over all a good book, I just think it would've been easier to follow if more of the back story was in the beginning of the book instead of the middle

    • Rach says:

I didn't read the preceding book to this and I'm gutted but Criminally Insane just blew my mind, it was a tour de force in this genre and then some and I can't wait for the next offering :-)
